We love coffee made in a coffee plunger (French press). There is no easier way to get rich, flavorful coffee just the way you like it every time. Coffee plungers are simple and inexpensive to use and nice to look at. They are compatible with all varieties of coffee types and roasts and do not require the use of prepackaged, flavorless coffee pods. In fact coffee presses are perfect in almost every way except for one: They can be a real pain in the neck to clean!
Clogged Drains: The worst thing to do with your spent coffee grounds is to flush them down the sink. Yet that is what many inexperienced owners of coffee presses do after brewing the perfect cup. And if you keep doing it you will become your plumber’s best friend! Coffee grounds do not dissolve in water and they do not float once they have been wet for a while. In fact, once coffee grounds are in a water system they act like sand. That right! Just like sand at a beach coffee grounds will accumulate and accumulate in your pipes until the water has no place to go except for on your floor. And what’s worse is that the accumulation does not always occur right under the sink but in your MAIN plumbing lines. That means not just a clogged sink but the whole HOUSE! Bath tubs, Toilets, EVERYTHING. Oh and the garbage disposal doesn’t help! So don’t try it, or you will just be buying a new garbeurator before too long.
Messy Kitchens: Ok so you aren’t going to put your coffee grounds down the sink any more, so what do you do? It seems simple enough to add some water to the spent grounds, swish ‘em around and the dump them in the garbage can. And if you do that six or seven times between taking the garbage out you can follow the trail of dripping oozing mess from the garbage can to the sidewalk.
So skip the water and try to extract the grounds by “gently” tapping your coffee press against the trashcan until “CRACK” you get to buy a new carafe (which, by the way, can cost almost as much as a whole new coffee press!)
Or there is the “Spatula Trick” or the “Commando method” (bare handed) or the “Leave-it-to-the-Maid Trick. All these methods work and all of these methods, in the best scenario, will leave you with a mess in the kitchen and they all to often result in Broken Coffee Makers.
We’re not making this stuff up! This is all based on first-hand accounts from our customers. By our estimations over 50% of the coffee presses in the world may end up discarded or on a back shelf in the basement just simply because they can be messy or difficult or even expensive to clean on a day to day basis. So with this in mind we set out to solve a very common, very basic and very neglected problem. And fortunately for all of us coffee plunger fans, we came up with a reliable, inexpensive and very easy-to-use solution!
