What is silicone and why do we use it?

Silicone is a synthetic rubber that contains bonded silicon (a natural element, abundant in sand and rock) and oxygen. Silicone has been extensively tested for food cooking and storage applications and has been and shown to release no toxins into the food or affect the color, smell or taste of the food or beverages that it is used with. Silicone is extremely heat and cold resistant so it will hold up to the boiling water in your coffee press. Silicone is also very flexible, which is makes The Tambaroo® fun to use and easy to clean. It will not cause scratches or damage to your coffee press.  The Tambaroo is made of the highest grade, food safe and additive free silicone available.
